Moving from one place to another can be a challenging and stressful time. There are a lot of pressing issues like “What if I can't find a home I like?” or “How will I move all my stuff from one place to another?” There are a lot of these questions when it comes to moving. Right here in this blog, we will address some of the most pressing questions by providing some tips and tricks to help you with the process. Let's kick it off with one of the most important details

Having a Realtor

I know this sounds like a cheesy detail coming from a Real Estate office, but it's true. Realtors are experienced in the process of moving from one home to another and a lot of other things. They know how fast homes are moving on the market and how much time you have to think about that next property. They also know a lot of resources that can help you throughout this process, like packers, movers, insurance agents, and even housing space if you can't find the perfect home. Without a Realtor,  you might be left only using the internet to find these resources instead of knowing for sure that they won't damage your personal property or the ins and outs of the closing process. The process from selling to buying can be hard and sometimes not work out the way you hoped, Realtors know this from experience and can help you through it.

The Process

There are a lot of moving parts throughout the process of selling your home and buying another home. There are also a lot of different parties involved like lenders, bankers, insurance agents, inspectors, Real Estate agents, and lawyers. Each party has its part to do for this closing to go smoothly, but sometimes there is a holdup with one of the parties or we are still waiting on required documents to close. The process from accepting an offer to finding your next home within a month can be stressful and sometimes you can't find a home that you like. What do you do then?  When this happens we recommend the client to find a short-term month-to-month rental to live in while we are working to find their dream property.  Another couple was using our services and they had their RV ready to roll in case they couldn't find a home when they sold. They didn't find a house and just used it as an opportunity to travel around the Midwest until a home came on the market. Buying a new home is not always fun, but it is necessary because we don't want you making an impulsive buying decision and being disappointed with your home.

Packing

Packing is something you have to do to be able to move homes. There are a few things that help your packing experience go by faster and more efficiently. The first step is to start this process early. If you start with the nonessential items a month or a few weeks prior, it will make your packing when you close a breeze. While packing, use this time to get rid of some stuff you don't need anymore. Throughout the process of moving homes you have to pack and move everything you own, there isn't a better time to go through your stuff and get rid of things that you don't use or want anymore. If you don't need it, DON'T move it! Another great tip is to pack by categories not rooms. Kitchen stuff all together, clothing all together, bedding altogether, doing this will make it easy to find everything you need when you are starting to unpack. Nothing is worse than packing something and never seeing it again. You also should keep all your essential items like cash, passport, and toothbrush with you throughout the move. After you have a box packed up, start stacking them in the garage. Having all your boxes in the garage will make loading up the truck quick and easy. If you are renting your own truck, put the heavy boxes on the bottom and the lighter ones on top. If you are having a moving company move everything it's suggested to get insurance to cover your items throughout this process.

Unpacking

If you thought packing was hard you better buckle up because this part not any more enjoyable. Unpacking is a daunting task that can take weeks to complete. It's a challenge to unpack everything in an orderly and organized manner. Hopefully, you are packed by categories not rooms. One of our main tips for unpacking in your new home is to set a deadline. A lot of times people will move into their new house and just relax because the closing and buying process is over. When they do this they might have boxes that will sit around for months to a year. Try to set a deadline two weeks after you move in. During this two week deadline, work hard in your free time to get organized and settled.

I hope I didn't scare you into not ever wanting to move. Overall this process can be daunting, but with proper planning, it can go by very smoothly. The main thing to remember is to start the process early so you don't feel rushed when it’s the fourth quarter of the game. Nothing is worse than rush packing and when you get to your new home everything is unorganized or broken because you didn't pack correctly.  If you are ever feeling like you are in over your head reach out to us for help it's what we are here for!
